Jerry Schmitz, Executive Director of the South Dakota Soybean Research & Promotion Council, sees great potential in South Dakota’s agricultural future with Dakota BioWorx. "We’re really on the western edge of the Corn Belt, which gives us unique opportunities, especially in business," said Schmitz. "If we can develop these technologies here in South Dakota, it will have a far greater impact on sustainability than in most other states."

He added, "Most of our young people leave the state to find employment, and that creates a dual challenge: it takes labor away, and business goes elsewhere. But if we can develop these technologies here, we’ll strengthen both the local economy and the environment."
